The day has been very lousy. A holiday at home away from the heaps of assignments, gothic engineering books and uncooked hostel food. It's a day where 11.30 at noon becomes my early morning....grandma's angry voices that seem to come from far becomes my wake up alarm and lunch, my breakfast. It is barely once or twice a month that I get such a day. After the noon chores all I can think of doing is sit at the verandah and stare at everything that is around (since I happen to be a non-consumer of tea, coffee etc I can only think of taking a glass of plain water to accompany me in my adventure). What do i see....long narrow road with canal on one side...barely any traffic as it is almost mid day...scorching sun...and the 'sweet' cacophony of the crows that adds to the background music. That is when I notice the palm tree tops swaying with the winds and it reminds me of a joke played on me.
My gran's bro once asked me how the coconuts are plucked from the coconut tree. I have seen coconut climbing men of deep brown color wearing a lungi and a piece of ragged cloth around their head going up the coconut trees and throwing down coconuts with their curved knifes...so it wasn't a big deal to answer the question. He agreed. Here comes the next question...how do they go from one tree to the next. How simple...they climb down and walk towards the next tree.He laughed and laughed. He said, "Oh sweet Amy, u r so stupid.Don't you know that they catch the next tree top by swaying in one tree and jump to the next tree top". Hey wait a minute, but that happens with palm trees only, said I. He called my uncle who was busy finishing a potato chips pack and my grans(grandparents). They agreed that i was stupid...little did I know about the prank they were playing on me. I was totally confused and humiliated. Its true that i havn't actually seen them climbing the next tree as granny asks me to stand away from the trees, in case one of the coconuts caught by the 'wind' might come chasing me and lead to my early and disastrous death.Oh no i didn't even know of this basic fact. For the next couple of days everybody around kept pulling my legs.Still they do and i laugh with them....it feels good when I am able to laugh at myself...
drrrr...drrrr....oops its my mobile vibrating...it is my mom, calling to make sure that I am up and not still under my blanket. It is nearly 2pm and is getting really hot. I am tired of watching tv. granny and grandpa are taking their afternoon nap. Missing college. It is weird...the way i miss my home when i am at hostel and the other way when i am at home.Ok i know what I should do...how about coloring my nails. Now they are bright green....and i've seen people staring at railway station and train as if it is a crime to paint nails in funky colors.. I dont mind...I love nail art and i have all sorts of colors ranging from peacock green to yellow and dull pink to bright red.
Alright i better wear a shade of pink and be a good girly girl atleast when i am in the viscinity of my granny. I often wonder who made this rule of pink for girls and blue for boys. I am sure it is a guy....pink is an understatement for girls...all sweet and cute. Who cares i am gonna do a streak of green in the midst of the pink....Wow "friends" started in star world...I better laugh for sometime before i experiment with my evening snack...
